The bell icon in the top right corner of Custodian shows your notifications. The number badge tells you how many unread alerts you have.
Notifications fire when a sensor reading exceeds your climate thresholds, when accumulated light or UV exposure passes a budget set on a climate rule, or when a sensor loses connectivity.
Threshold and connectivity alerts describe a moment. Budget alerts describe a total, and arrive twice for each budget: once at the warning percentage set on the rule, and again when the budget is reached.
Viewing your notifications
Click the bell icon on any page in Custodian to open the notification panel. It opens over your current page, so you do not lose your place.
Each notification gives the sensor name, the reading that triggered it, the range it should be within, and how long ago it happened. The climate rule it belongs to is shown underneath.
Click the arrow on a notification to expand it:
- Read by: the team members who have seen it
- Last breach event: when the threshold was last breached
- Duration: how long the sensor was out of range
- Current reading: the sensor's latest values
Edit profile opens the climate rule, and Forward event sends the alert to someone else in your project.
You configure which events trigger notifications by setting up notification rules within your climate rules. See Setting up notifications for a rule for more.
Forwarding a notification
You can forward a notification to another user in your project. This is useful when you spot something another team member needs to act on, or when you want to escalate an alert.
Expand the notification and click Forward event. Pick the person under Select user, then click Forward event to send it.
Flagging a notification
Click the flag icon on a notification to pin it to the top of your list. Flagged notifications stay prominent until you unflag them, so anything needing follow-up stays visible.
Archiving a notification
Click the tick icon on a notification to mark it as reviewed. This signals to your team that the event has been acknowledged and dealt with.
Archiving applies across all users in the project. Once one person archives a notification, it moves to the archived view for everyone.
Click Archive at the top of the panel to see archived notifications, and Back to all events to return to the list.
If you are receiving too many notifications or missing important ones, review your alert thresholds. Thresholds set too tight can generate a lot of noise.
